The 2017 Nonprofit Excellence Awards Semifinalists are…

Ten nonprofit groups from across the city have been chosen as semifinalists for The New York Community Trust Nonprofit Excellence Awards Program, making them eligible for $60,000 in cash prizes and scholarships to Columbia Business School programs. The winning organizations will be announced during the Best Practices Workshop & Awards Presentation on Friday, December 1, 2017.

This year’s semifinalists are:

Brooklyn Community Services (Brooklyn) empowers at-risk children, youth and families, and adults with mental illness or developmental disabilities to overcome the obstacles they face, as we strive to ensure opportunity for all to learn, grow and contribute to ONE Brooklyn Community.
Chicken & Egg Pictures, Inc. (Brooklyn) supports women nonfiction filmmakers whose artful and innovative storytelling catalyzes social change. We envision a world in which filmmakers representing a range of experiences, cultures, and backgrounds are fully supported to realize their artistic goals, build sustainable careers, and achieve parity in all areas of the film industry.
Day One (Manhattan) partners with youth to end dating abuse and domestic violence through community education, supportive services, legal advocacy and leadership development.
Food Bank For New York City (Manhattan) ends hunger by organizing food, information, and support for community survival and dignity.
Gay Men’s Health Crisis, Inc. (Manhattan) fights to end the AIDS epidemic and uplift the lives of all affected.
Girl Be Heard (Brooklyn) develops, amplifies, and celebrates the voices of young women through socially conscious theatre-making.
Mental Health Association of Westchester (Westchester – Tarrytown) promotes mental health through advocacy, community education and direct services.
Stoked Mentoring Inc. (Brooklyn) creates a community of fearless leaders through mentoring, opportunity, and action.
The Children’s Aid Society (Manhattan) helps children living in poverty succeed and thrive.
The HOPE Program (Brooklyn) empowers New Yorkers to overcome poverty through skills training, jobs and career advancement.
